UNDIP, Semarang (29/03) – Abdurrahman Fawwaz, a 2022 student of the Chemical Engineering Study Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), has achieved remarkable accomplishments not only in academics but also in mastering the Holy Qur’an, having memorized 20 juz.
Admitted to UNDIP through the SNMPTN pathway, Fawwaz began his university journey with a strong determination to grow not only academically but also in character development and in making meaningful contributions to society.
Now approaching the completion of his studies, Fawwaz is focusing on finishing his undergraduate thesis while serving as a laboratory assistant in the Department of Chemical Engineering. This role provides him with opportunities to apply his knowledge and strengthen the practical competencies that complement his classroom learning.
Throughout his academic journey at UNDIP, Fawwaz has experienced a dynamic and supportive campus environment. This atmosphere has encouraged him to develop continuously, both academically and non-academically. His involvement in various research activities and competitions has enhanced his critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
His passion and consistency in studying the Qur’an have led him to participate in numerous competitions, particularly in the field of Hifdzil Qur’an (Qur’an memorization). In addition, he has actively participated in science, technology, and student innovation competitions at the city, regional, and national levels. One of his most recent achievements was winning Second Place in the 2025 National Student Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQMN) in the 20-Juz Hifdzil Qur’an category, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology at Universitas Lambung Mangkurat in Banjarmasin, where he represented UNDIP.
The journey to this achievement was far from instant. Fawwaz successfully passed rigorous university-level selection processes and underwent intensive coaching programs facilitated by UNDIP. The university’s continuous support through regular training sessions played a significant role in helping him perform at his best during the competition.
“This achievement brings feelings of gratitude, pride, and emotion. Especially because I previously participated in MTQMN in 2023, but did not achieve the results I had hoped for. From that experience, I learned to improve myself continuously,” he said.
For Fawwaz, the spirit of ‘Noble and Valuable UNDIP’carries profound meaning. He believes that students are not only expected to excel academically but also to make meaningful contributions to society. Achievements are not merely personal accomplishments; they are opportunities to bring honor to the university and make a positive impact on the surrounding community.
His greatest motivation stems from the trust UNDIP placed in him to represent the university at the national level. That responsibility became a powerful driving force to deliver his best performance. He also emphasized that previous failures became turning points that taught him valuable lessons, encouraging him to improve and come back stronger.
In his view, students play a strategic role in supporting UNDIP’s vision of becoming a world-class university. Such contributions can be realized through scientific research, innovation, and achievements at both national and international levels. Student success in competitions and scholarly publications indirectly enhances UNDIP’s global reputation.
His experiences have taught him that opportunities are always available for those who are willing to take the initiative. Consistency, hard work, and a commitment to lifelong learning are key factors in achieving success.
In closing, Fawwaz encouraged fellow students never to hesitate to try new things and to be courageous enough to step outside their comfort zones. He also stressed the importance of maintaining integrity, enthusiasm for learning, and collaboration in every endeavor.
“Opportunities are always there for those who are willing to try. Don’t be afraid of failure, because that is where we learn and grow. Let us make the most of every opportunity to contribute and bring honor to UNDIP and Indonesia on the global stage,” he concluded.
